There is actually a fan art "vector" category now. I know not all vectors are crappy anime screenshot traces, but this just seems to encourage it more.
Commented on yer journal. Someone seriously needs to get after Ms. Vampirella and give her a good smack in the face and a wake-up call. She could draw if she actually worked at it.
I signed your petiton a while back but to be honest, I doubt it'll get us anywhere. deviantART generally doesn't listen to petitions.
Probably because, like the aforementioned "artist," they can't handle the truth.
There is a place for everything, I think people should get encouraged to draw and not trace, but banning it all in all was not a good thing either.
I think their mainconcern though was for copyright infringement lawsuits, so they can now speak out: But its there, so noone claims its their own stuff...
I encourage people to draw and not to copy 100 percent. And I think thats more important then going on a rampage about how bad vector art is. No offense meant, I only felt I need to say that. The stamp is valid though.
I have seen some really beautiful vector art that used valid stock or was created by hand without something to trace. I'm not bashing vector art- I'm bashing people who are too lazy to create something by themselves or use a reference/base that they actually have permission to use.
If people want to trace, I can't stop them, but it certainly doesn't belong on deviantART. I think =LostKitten said it best...
"Referencing a portion of another artist's work is one thing, but completely copying art line by line is theft. It shouldn't matter if that art comes from an artist in this community or an artist paid to create that work for fans around the world to enjoy. There shouldn't be any tolerance for exact copies of any art. That reflects no level of individual talent or ability and shouldn't be in an ART community."

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
